Race number two of the Northstar downhill series featured the Sticks and Stones trail. Racers started at the top of the trail, straight off the lift which added a fair amount of pedaling right out of the gate. This made for longer race times and a new dimension of fitness for racers, pretty cool. The resort did some work in the form of two table jumps right out and the style session was on for practice. I pulled a chest muscle the day prior, so I was red shirted and on camera patrol for the day. Im a teacher by trade, so forgive my camera…”skills”

The day was dusty as ever and the duff was flying! Racers that did best were relaxed, a little loose and kept things casual through the bombed out, rock sections. If you pushed it too far, there was little forgiveness to be found in the brown pow and rocks below. Romano, hot off a solid run for Gypsy, crashed out and was escorted off the trail by patrol. The Hitman Hartman decided to fight a bear on his way down via hitting the Earth, putting him in the back of his class. Bummer! Chappy Chapman made his pro class debut at Northstar and pulled out 10th place, well played indeed. Sam Red-Man kept it real and earned some metal with a solid 3rd place for his class.

Some shade and Northstar’s infamous raffle followed the race runs and good times were had by all. With food coupons, awesome raffle prices (racers get a free ticket) and PBR flowing like…wine? You should definitely be out here enjoying the good times. Next race is Karpiel top to bottom for pro/expert, with  shift to Speed Control for the sport/beginner. Are you ready for Vietnam?
